Celebrating 60 years of independence, the Diamond Jubilee Basotho Blanket commemorates a defining milestone in the history of the Kingdom of Lesotho.

On 4 October 1966, Basutoland gained independence from British rule, becoming the Kingdom of Lesotho. Six decades later, the Diamond Jubilee honours a remarkable journey shaped by resilience, unity, cultural pride and an enduring sense of Basotho identity.

Rooted in the foundational legacy of King Moshoeshoe I, the Diamond Jubilee is both a celebration of Lesotho’s past and a symbol of hope for its future. It recognises the traditions and shared heritage that have united generations of Basotho, while looking ahead to the continued growth and prosperity of the Mountain Kingdom.

The occasion carries even greater significance following the discovery of the extraordinary 346.99-carat Lesotho Jubilee diamond – a fitting symbol of Lesotho’s strength, beauty and enduring place on the global stage.

The Diamond Jubilee Basotho Blanket captures the spirit of this historic anniversary: a lasting tribute to 60 years of independence, heritage and national pride.

Celebrating Lesotho. Honouring 60 years. Woven with pride.
