Mara a Basotho Heritage Day Festival in partnership with Aranda Textile Mills
Johannesburg, September – This Heritage Day as part of Heritage Month we celebrated our pride in partnership with Aranda Textile Mills in Katlehong. The event took place at the Huntersfield Stadium and was a celebration of the rich heritage and traditions of the Basotho people.

There was Basotho music, traditional dance and tradition Sesotho food and drinks on offer included dikgobe (a dish of corn and beans) Khemere and more. "We are proud to be one of the partners involved in this special event – we started this partnership in 2017. Many of our blankets are heritage items particularly our Basotho range.This festival celebrates Basotho culture and part of that is the blanket wearing tradition and festivals like these help keep that tradition alive, “ says Palo Mokoailane - cultural ambassador for Aranda Textile Mills.
Mara a Basotho is an organisation that aims to keep the Basotho culture alive for Basotho people living outside of Lesotho. Together we aim to educate and raise awareness about the importance of understanding Sesotho cultural roots and identity as well as recognising and celebrating the many cultures that form part of South Africa’s rich heritage.
South Africa's Heritage Day is a public holiday that recognises and celebrates the rich culture and traditions of the nation. It encourages people to embrace their cultural identities by dressing in traditional attire, enjoying cultural foods and participating in practices that foster unity, diversity and social cohesion. Events like this one highlight the national Heritage Month theme.
