Basotho Fashion on Super heros in Wakanda
- soon on a catwalk near you!
The fashion of Africa is colourful, imaginative, practical and often built for action. And you can see that fashion and action on the big screen in Marvel’s new blockbuster, the record breaking, stereotype smashing, super hero movie Black Panther in Cinemas now!
Western fashion has embraced African textiles including the Basotho blanket and even big names like Louis Vuitton have incorporated it into their work despite the controversy of the manner in which it was done. Fact is, Africa is going viral.
It is probably precisely because of the proud link to culture and heritage that the value and meaning in African fashion play a role when portraying a proud African Superhero.
Along comes Black Panther who hails from Wakanda. Wakanda is a technologically advanced mythical African state, some of whose people can be seen to be wearing the Seanamarena and Basotho blanket favourites of whom Aranda, established in 1953, is the proud custodian and manufacturer. www.clubaranda.co.za
